Let It "Shine"

(New York City -- March 31, 2008) --  The Stones premiered their Martin Scorsese-directed documentary, "Shine A Light," last night at New York's Ziegfeld Theatre on 54th Street.  In attendance were all four Stones, Scorsese, and a host of celebrity scene-makers (like fellow music legend, J.Lo).

Earlier in the day, the Stones hosted a press conference at the Palace Hotel.  They also popped their heads into a press-only screening at an IMAX theatre on 68th Street.

From New York, the band will fly to London, for a premiere in Leicester Square on Wednesday (April 2).

"Shine A Light" was filmed in 2006 during the group's two-night stint at New York's Beacon Theatre.  It features 17 songs, including "Far Away Eyes," "She Was Hot," and "You Got The Silver."

"I think 'Shine A Light' is the only Martin Scorsese film that doesn't have 'Gimme Shelter' in it," observed Mick.

The film's guest performers include Buddy Guy (trading licks with Keith on Muddy Waters' "Champagne and Reefer"), the White Stripes' Jack White (taking on "Loving Cup"), and chanteuse Christina Aguilera (belting out "Live With Me").  "I thought Christina Aguilera was amazing," said Charlie, adding, "What I like about this film is that, simply put, it's not boring."

The film's backstage scenes include a meeting between the Stones and Bill and Hillary Clinton.  By the end of it, Keith says, "I'm Bushed!"

The film opens to the public this Friday, April 4.  Although it'll be running in "conventional" theatres like the Ziegfeld, it will also be shown in IMAX theatres throughout the U.S.  ("It's like being onstage with us," said Ronnie of the IMAX experience.)  To find the "Shine A Light" IMAX theatre nearest you (and to purchase tickets online), click here.  To see the film's trailer, click on the "TRAILER" link in the photo above.

When asked at yesterday's press conference if the Stones plan to continue touring and whether they could see themselves onstage at 70, Keith answered matter-of-factly.  "Hey, man, that's only five years away."
